At 5:30 about 20 balloons took off in a race. One balloon was given a head start, and the object of the race was to see if any of the others could pass him up. The sky was filled with hot air balloons - it was spectacular.
After the race, they lined up around the lake for the “balloon glow.” This was my favorite part. For about 45 minutes they had a variety of songs playing through the speaker system, and the balloons would light up in various patterns to the beat of the music. It was like nothing I’ve ever seen. I’ll try to post a video of this later so you can see for yourself!
The event is held annually, so if you live around Knoxville I’d definitely recommend going next year. If not, try searching the web for hot air balloon festivals in your area. It should definitely be on your must-see list!
